Matthew Reed
Electromagnetic Chess Board Project
During his college years, Matt often played Dungeons and Dragons remotely with his friends from other states. He found the idea of moving pieces on a board without being physically there intriguing. When considering the board's dimensions, he realized that an 8x8 board could also serve for chess, enabling a computer opponent on a physical chess board. The goal of his project was to move pieces on a board using a microcontroller, eliminating the need for mechanical parts. This way, he wouldn't have to adjust motor positions when visiting friends. As Matt's expertise is primarily in software, he is using this project to gain practical experience in electrical engineering.
